are located in Central New Jersey, 40 miles from New York City by car,
bus or train and only 20 nautical miles by passenger ferry to downtown
Manhattan from Keyport Harbor, the regions' northern waterfront area.
The Bayshore Region is accessed directly from the Garden State Parkway,
using GSP Exit 117 Keyport
at the northern point and GSP Exit 109 Eatontown at the southern point.
The Bayshore Region is traversed by State Highway 36 and includes nine
communities that comprise the Bayshore Region. In geographical order these
nine communities all share Raritan Bay and the State Highway 36 access:
Aberdeen, Matawan, Keyport, Union Beach, Hazlet, Keansburg, Middletown
(Port Monmouth, Belford & Leonardo), Atlantic Highlands, and Highlands.
During
your day trip, visit the waterfront downtowns of Keyport, Highlands and
Atlantic Highlands
and experience a range of stately Victorian architecture in Downtown Keyport
and Atlantic Highlands.
From eclectic shops, restaurants, crabbing & fishing to charter boat
day trips, you will find family fun and treasures. Museums include Keyport’s
Steamboat Dock Museum, Keyport Fire
Museum and Educational Center, John Burrowes Mansion, Matawan, and Atlantic
Highlands Strauss Mansion and Museum; while the Monmouth County Henry
Hudson Bike Trail provides a 12-mile converted rail trail for biking and
hiking. Discover the wonder of the Monmouth
County Parks including Bayshore Waterfront Park, featuring scenic
overlooks, fishing, and boating. Monmouth Cove Marina, in the Port Monmouth
section of Middletown, offers marina services and Leonardo State Marina
has marina and pump-out facilities. The highest point on the eastern seaboard
is Mt Mitchell Scenic Overlook. From this vantage point, there are views
of Manhattan and the coast line that are unforgettable.
Visit
historic lighthouses featuring Twin Lights in Highlands; Sandy Hook Lighthouse,
Gateway National Park at Sandy Hook; Conover Lighthouse, in the Leonardo
section of Middletown. Fun for children of all ages is waiting for you
at Keansburg Amusement Park, a Bayshore tradition, along with Runaway
Rapids Water Park. Join the fun on the waterfront with restaurants, taverns
and a Bay Walk too.
